Table Hockey Art: The Process

Updated: Jul 26, 2020

In half a minute, the 10-12 hour process of painting an NHL icon - in this case, Canucks goalie Roberto "Bobby Lou" Luongo - on a working table hockey game.

Half the battle is the planning; positioning the portrait so the slots and players have minimum disruption.

That done, players and nets removed, I draw the image then fill it in in stages, adding more and more detail. The final step is to judiciously restore some of the rink's lines and circles to integrate the portrait into the surface in an eye-pleasing manner.
